We have been busy as bees creating fall programs!
More news on our Celebration of Fall weekend October 2nd - 4th is coming!  In the meantime, look and see what ELSE we have going on for the next month!   Programs are available for adults and families.
All our programs required pre-registration and payment is collected (cash or check) at the door.  Spots are very limited, so if you are interested in a program, contact us as soon as possible to register!  You can contact us at helmernaturecenter@gmail.com email address.  You may also call the nature center at 585-336-3035.
Adult and Teen Programs
Leaf Peeping Tree ID:  Past the Pallet
Adults and teens are invited to a Tree ID talk and walk.  Learn tricks and tips for identifying trees in fall, then set off on the trails with a naturalist guide to test your skills.

Birds and Bins
Budding adult birders!  Come to the Nature Center to get an introduction to birding.  Learn how to ID a bird and most effectively use your binoculars, then venture out on a bird walk, stopping at a few watching locations to use what you've learned.  Our naturalist will be available to answer any questions.  We can provide sanitary binoculars, but feel free to bring your own.

Owl Prowl

Meet Sherlock and Watson, our Eastern Screech Owls, and learn about the amazing adaptations that allow owls to hunt at night and how to identify our local species by sight or sound.  Then join us on a moonlit walk through our woods where we will call to the owls and listen for owl activity.  This activity is best for adults and children over 8 years old.  Specify your preferred date when registering.   Due to the popularity of this event, dates may be added.

Family Programs
Butterflies and Bugout
Families are invited to learn some fun butterfly and insect facts.  Then, we'll get out our nets, explore the Nature Center and try to catch some for an up-close look.  (Don't worry, all of our bug friends will be released!)

Not-So-Spooky, Spooky Story Book Walk
Celebrate the season with a not-so-spooky story book walk.  Kids grades K-2 will start the story and travel the trails with our naturalist to search for and find a page at a time.  Find them all and find out how the story ends!  Participants should come with ONE adult per family.

Chickadee Kids
Love birds?  Do they always fly away before you can get a good look?  Come to the Nature Center to get an introduction to birding for kids.  Learn how to ID a bird before it gets away and then venture out on a bird walk, stopping at a few watching locations to use your new tricks.  Our naturalist will be available to answer any questions.  We can provide sanitary binoculars, but feel free to bring your own.  Kids grades K – 4 with ONE adult per family.
