To our West Irondequoit Families,
As we consider the recent tragic events in our area and the greater United States, the access to social media, and frequent reminders of violence and discord, please know we are committed to providing a caring culture in our schools with adults who know and care for each of our young people. We want to provide a resource for coping with trauma that may be helpful to you as well.
Since 2005, West Irondequoit has been involved in The Consortium on Trauma, Illness, and Grief in Schools (commonly referred to as TIG). TIG is a collaboration with the Monroe County Office of Mental Health and the surrounding school districts, with a goal of preparing schools to respond to the emotional needs of children, teachers, and other school personnel which arise from trauma, violence, illness, grief and loss.
We are attaching a resource from TIG entitled Trauma Resource for Families, and encourage you to access this guide if you feel it would be helpful in supporting your children at home.
Thank you for sharing your children with us, and for working together to reassure them that they are safe. Together, we can provide the resources to best support them.
Best regards,
Sue Flood, Director of Student Services and TIG Coordinator
Karyn Ryan, Supervisor of Student Services and TIG Coordinator
Gretchen Bush, Counseling Coordinator and TIG Coordinator
