IHS business students compete in Orlando

Irondequoit HS business students were in Orlando this week competing at the DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC). About 22,000 students from all 50 states and seven other countries earned their spots via regional and state competitions. More than 60 events were held to identify the best in the world in their respective events. Here are full results for IHS students! Congrats to them all!  


Ines de Pablo (junior): Earned a Top 10 medal for her performance in the Virtual Business Sports Marketing event sponsored by Knowledgematters. Ines earned a 2nd place ranking and a $2,000 scholarship in a recently completed contest in Virtual Business Sports. 


Reid Wygal (junior): Earned a 2nd place ranking in the Digital Skills Presentation Challenge and $1,000. He also completed a Leadership Seminar Series. 

 

Alyssa Calarco (senior): Earned a 15th place ranking in the Virtual Business Entrepreneurship contest. 

 

Cayden Catalina (senior): Earned the opportunity to complete an all-expenses paid Marketing Internship for the company that sponsored her 2nd place DECA ICDC performance at last year's ICDC. You can see some of her internship work on Instagram at “@km_simulations.”

  • Junior Jack Bayerl in the Hospitality & Tourism Professional Selling event
  • Sophomores Tessa Coeny and Alley Armitage in the Start-Up Business Plan
  • Sophomore Evelyn Dean in the Business Services Marketing event

Students were able to experience the keynote speaker Sterling Hawkins (https://www.sterlinghawkins.com/), explore Disney Springs, Universal Studios and Top Golf in-between competition sessions. All IHS students earned these achievements through their work in Business classes such as Sports Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Entertainment Businesses, Virtual Business Management and College Accounting.
