WE ARE AMERICA PROJECT
West Irondequoit CSD is proud to share Irondequoit High School’s year-long “We Are America” project with our community. The video above is about the 77-page book (also available online) of compelling autobiographical stories by 30 IHS juniors. IHS was one of approximately 15 schools nationwide selected for the project, which was led by English teacher, Erin Quintero. The vignettes explore issues of the American identity today, through personal, family-based, historical and societal lenses. Theyinclude stories of self-discovery, struggle, resilience and more. Each student was asked to submit a personal story to Mrs. Quintero. She collaborated with them and edited the book. The class held a book unveiling earlier this spring and some students read their story aloud. The $15 books are sold out, but the digital version, which includes audio of students reading their stories, is available for free at the link below. There are plans to do this again next school year. Well done to all!
