  • Implement, maintain, and optimize the systems, processes and infrastructure that effectively and efficiently support and promote the goals and health of the district.

INTERNET ACCESS FOR STUDENTS

Irondequoit Public Library has mobile hotspots available to lend out to families who need them.  Please see our Student Support and Frequently Asked Questions page for details.

Additionally, West Irondequoit Central School District has outside access available for students from building parking lots.  Areas with strong signal strength include the parking lot to the south of Rogers/Southlawn, Irondequoit High School's southwest (teacher) parking lot / loading dock area, Listwood School's north parking lot, and Iroquois Middle School's west entrance (teacher) parking lot near the 4th grade wing.

OPTIONAL LAPTOP PROTECTION PLAN

Parents of students who take their devices home are strongly encouraged to enroll each year in the district's optional laptop protection program to mitigate the cost of potential accidental damage charges.  Plan details and a link to the online enrollment pages are available here:

STUDENT 1:1 DEVICE PLANS

Where possible, students will keep their laptops over the summer, giving them continued access to educational and enrichment materials (such as online books) while school is out of session.  The exception will be students exiting kindergarten, grade 4, grade 8, and grade 12 (graduating seniors), who will turn in their devices at the end of the academic year.  As these students enter grades 1, 5, and 9 in the fall, they will receive new devices, which will remain in their care for the next four years.  The turned-in devices will be reconditioned over the summer for use by our incoming kindergartners and used as short-term "loaner" devices in our schools.

Summer Plans

  • Students completing kindergarten: Students will leave their devices and chargers in their classrooms at the end of the school year, and will receive new laptops, chargers, and bags in the fall at the start of first grade.  Kindergarten students participating in Extended School Year or Summer Lab programs will have access to a loaner device at their program location.
  • Students completing 1st, 2nd, 3rd grades: Students will keep their laptops and chargers until the end of fourth grade (including summers).  Any students leaving the district at the end of the school year can turn in their laptop and charger at their school building on the last day of school.  Students leaving the district over the summer can turn in their laptops and chargers at District Office, 321 List Avenue, prior to August 30th.
  • Students completing 4th grade: Students will turn in their laptops, chargers and bags at the end of fourth grade, and will receive new laptops, chargers, and bags in the fall at the start of fifth grade. Fourth-grade students participating in Extended School Year or Summer Lab programs will have access to a loaner device at their program location.
  • Students completing 5th, 6th, 7th grades: Students will keep their laptops and chargers until the end of eighth grade (including summers).  Any students leaving the district at the end of the school year can turn in their laptop and charger at their school building on the last day of school.  Students leaving the district over the summer can turn in their laptops and chargers at District Office, 321 List Avenue, prior to August 30th.
  • Students completing 8th grade: Students will turn in their laptops and chargers at the end of eighth grade, and will receive new laptops, chargers, and bags in the fall at freshman orientation. Eighth-grade students participating in Extended School Year or Summer Lab programs will have access to a loaner device at their program location.  All accounts will have passwords updated on the day before Freshman orientation in preparation for laptop deployment.
  • Students completing 9th, 10th, 11th grades: Students will keep their laptops and chargers until graduation (including summers).  Any students leaving the district at the end of the school year can turn in their laptop and charger at the DMRC on the last day of school.  Students leaving the district over the summer can turn in their laptops and chargers at District Office, 321 List Avenue, prior to August 30th.
  • Students completing 12th grade: Congratulations on your graduation!  Students will turn in their laptops and chargers as they pick up their caps and gowns for graduation.  Any students participating in extended summer opportunities will will have access to a loaner device at their program location.
  • RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ALL: Student laptops which stay at home with students over the summer need love and care.  Please keep devices in a safe location away from heat, moisture, sand, and misuse.  If devices are not being used for educational purposes, we recommend parents/guardians store the devices in a safe and secure location until they are needed.  Information on home parental controls to enhance safe and secure use of devices is available here: https://wicsd.tech/help/parental-controls/.

Minimum Device Specifications
Each year we review the minimum device specifications to meet the instructional needs of our students.  Our current approved minimum specifications for student Windows devices are listed below, with desired target specs in parentheses:

  • Processor: Pentium N5000 quad-core or higher
  • Memory: 4GB (8 GB)
  • Hard Drive: 128 GB (128GB SSD)
  • Display: 1024x768 (1366x768 touchscreen)
  • Network Adapter: Wireless 802.11ac (Bluetooth LE 4.1)

ADDITIONAL LAPTOP CHARGERS

The district supplies a single device charger with each deployed device, which we recommend accompany the device at all times.  We frequently receive questions from families interested in purchasing an additional charger to leave at home for convenience.  Though the technology department does not sell these chargers, they are available from external retailers.  Information on personal purchase of additional chargers is available on our Laptop Charger information page.
