Nearly a third of the 30 Irondequoit High School students who competed in the DECA State Career Conference this week in downtown Rochester are headed to the DECA International Career Development Conference in Atlanta! Wow! They’ll be joined by 17,000 other competitors from all over the world April 25-28. Congratulations to all! The super seven are:

  • Senior Ben Loomis – placed 2nd in Virtual Business Accounting.
  • Seniors Isaac Nielsen, Isaac Aymerich and Ben Long – placed 3rd for Innovation Business Plan.
  • Seniors Gianna Geesler, Elena Lamanna and Brooke Trovato – placed 6th for Franchise Business Plan.

Three other IHS students were recognized for Top 10 performances in their respective events. They are:

  • Junior Sam Gigliotta – Automotive Services Marketing – Top 10 medal for Role Play #1 and Top 10 overall.
  • Sophomore Emily Green – Business Services Marketing – Top 10 medal for her test.
  • Freshman Conrad Kamola – Principles of Marketing – Top 10 medal for his test.

The 66th Annual NYS DECA Career Conference was the largest ever with more than 3,300 competitors. An international student organization, DECA enhances the preparation for college and careers by providing co-curricular programs that integrate into classroom instruction, applying learning in the context of business, connecting to business and the community and promoting competition. Its student members leverage their DECA experience to become academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, experienced leaders. Students choose an area of business that is of interest to them at the start of the school year and prepare to compete in an event related to that area through business classes and other resources available through DECA. Business classes at Irondequoit High School that incorporate DECA into the curriculum include College Accounting, Virtual Business Management, Entertainment Businesses, Sports Marketing, and Entrepreneurship.
