graphic of walkway construction

We are excited to announce that construction on the second-story walkway connecting Irondequoit HS and Dake Junior HS is scheduled to start on Monday, Sept. 30th and last into late spring of 2025! This is part of the R.I.S.E. Capital Project and will improve safety for our students, so they no longer need to leave the building to transition between schools. Work being done by Campus Construction will impact students, staff and visitors to each building, so we wanted to share some details. Please refer to the graphic directly above as we outline the changes.

FOR STUDENTS/STAFF
IHS Door 3 and Dake Door 5 will not be in use because they’re in the (red) construction zone. Students will continue to use the main entrances to both buildings during the school day (8 AM - 2:55 PM). The green line shows the path students will take.

FOR VISITORS/EVENTS
During school hours, we require visitors to use the main entrances in the front of both buildings. After school hours, IHS Door 3 is often used for events in the IHS gymnasium and IHS auditorium. That area will still be an option via a temporary entrance/exit near IHS Door 3. The main entrance to IHS will still be available for events after the school day.

EMERGENCY EXITS
Adjustments have been made to ensure students and staff can exit the building quickly in case of emergency. Safety is always our top priority.
