As part of their annual "Advocacy Campaign," two students in Irondequoit High School’s award-winning DECA business club recently emailed a video to Irondequoit Town Supervisor Rory Fitzpatrick. It detailed the need for a digital speed-tracking sign in front of IHS on Cooper Road. That fulfilled the "Public Policy" component of the multi-layered campaign. As it turns out, it will fulfill so much more. Most important: Provide a safer street for our students and community.

After viewing the video, Supervisor Fitzpatrick requested a meeting with the students and Friday morning he told those two students, seniors Isabella Falcone and Cameron Murray, the town has secured funding to put up that sign.

"Hats off to Isabella, Cameron and our whole DECA family at large on another big success. Pedestrian safety on Cooper Road is always on our mind and securing this added resource in partnership with Supervisor Fitzpatrick and the Town adds another protective layer for our students and schools,” said Aaron Johnson, Superintendent of Schools. “It’s an incredible real-life civic experience that yielded real results."
