Sept. 15: Meet our Therapy Dogs - Bean, Hope and Nellie Belle
Meet our trio of therapy dogs - Bean, Hope and Nellie Belle! They follow in the paw prints of our district's first therapy dog, Simon, who unfortunately passed away in August of 2021 after spending a brief time at Dake Jr. HS. A therapy dog is trained and certified to provide affection, comfort, emotional support, and other benefits to students. Canines must be friendly, patient, confident, at ease in most situations and gentle. All must be tested and accredited, too. Principals have made students and families aware of the presence of therapy dogs in their buildings and provided an opt-out form if a student does not want to be around the dog. Nellie Belle will be at Dake, Bean at Briarwood and Hope with our post-secondary students at St. John Fisher University and in-district.
