Mr. Mark Foster was appointed to Assistant Principal of Irondequoit High School at Tuesday night’s Board of Education meeting. He replaces Mrs. Amy Donk, who has moved to a new role as West Irondequoit’s Director of Student Services. Mr. Foster is scheduled to start at IHS on July 18th and joins Ms. Barb Harford and Ms. Casey Nelan as APs.
“We were impressed with Mark's depth of instructional knowledge and understanding of social emotional learning as keys to unlocking success for every student,” IHS Principal, Ms. Alecia Zipp-McLaughlin said of Mr. Foster, who was selected from a pool of more than 32 candidates.
"Mark's enthusiasm for fostering strong relationships and supporting all students to reach their goals are a perfect match for IHS."
Mr. Foster has served in a few different roles over the past decade in the Rochester City School District. He worked in the Grants Department for Central Office for the past year. Prior to that, he served as a Math Teacher Leader/Content Area Coach at East Upper High School and also was an Interim Assistant Principal in 2020-21. He was a math teacher at EUHS and University Preparatory Charter School in Rochester for eight years.
Mr. Foster completed his Masters in Teaching and Curriculum (mathematics) and earned additional certifications in Inclusive Education and Urban Teaching and Leadership from the University of Rochester's Warner School. He did his undergraduate work at Penn State University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Crime, Law and Justice.
A Rochester native and School of the Arts graduate, he lives in Fairport with his 4-year-old son and golden retriever. He enjoys exercising and is a Penn State and Buffalo Bills football fan.
