Updates on District Budget & Vote, lead testing of water
Posted on 04/23/2021

Dear Families:

This week, our Board of Education approved the proposed 2021-22 school budget as presented. The budget to be voted on by the community includes a 0.72% tax levy increase, which is one half of our allowable tax cap for next year. Thanks to more than a decade of advocacy by our Board of Education members (past and present), teachers’ and administrators’ unions and local legislators, New York State will increase our Foundation Aid funding for next year. The move comes after a two-year freeze in this state aid and more than a decade of underfunding. This additional aid allows Districts like ours an opportunity to reduce the local tax burden along with reducing our reliance on savings to fund the annual school budget.

This year's Budget Vote will be Tuesday, May 18th, at the St. Paul Fire Blvd. Department. You can read more detailed information about the budget and Board of Education candidates on our website via THIS LINK. Our annual Budget newsletter “The Quote,” will be mailed to residents in early May.

LEAD TESTING IN WATER

NYS requires all public schools to test drinking water for lead contamination and to take action if lead exceeds the actionable threshold. If any fixture exceeds the lead action level (15 micrograms per liter), it must be taken out of service until actions are taken to mitigate the lead levels. Schools must notify staff, parents, and guardians of students in writing when outlets exceed the action level indicating contamination and maintain test results on their websites. For results and more information, please read the attached letter or view more on OUR WEBSITE.

COVID-19 CASE UPDATE

Since our last communication on Monday, April 19, the Monroe County Department of Public Health has reported four new cases in our District: two Irondequoit High School students and one student each at Dake Junior HS and Seneca School. Per federal privacy laws, we can’t disclose any more details or personally identifiable information. If you have questions, call the MCDPH Hotline at 753-5555.
