Ms. Brenna Farrell was appointed Principal of Briarwood and Colebrook elementary schools by the West Irondequoit CSD Board of Education on Thursday night. She has been Interim Principal since Sept. 30, following the retirement of longtime teacher/administrator, Miss Kathleen Bush.

“The poise and grace Brenna has shown in her current role came shining through in the (interview) process, speaking to her confidence but also demonstrating good self-awareness about how she builds connections to make learning and school fun,” Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Aaron Johnson, said of the Rochester native and Wilson Magnet graduate.

“Having helped to build our Early Literacy program from the ground up, Brenna is well-respected for her understanding of science-based Literacy development,” he added. “Brenna has also emerged as a leading voice on social justice, equity and inclusion.”

For the past three years, Ms. Farrell served as West Irondequoit’s K-12 English Language Arts Supervisor. Prior to that, she was the Executive Director of ELA for the Rochester City School District (grades 4-12) after teaching ELA locally and in Brooklyn. Ms. Farrell holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology from Canisius College, a Master of Arts in ELA and Literature from the University of Toledo and both a Master of Science in Educational Leadership and a Master of Arts in Education with a concentration on English Literature from Brooklyn College. She is currently working on her Doctorate in Teaching and Curriculum at the University of Rochester.

Ms. Farrell resides in Rochester with her husband, Matt, and their two children.
