Regrouping in addition and subtraction will be our primary focus in math this month.  Regrouping is the term we use in class, but carrying and borrowing are acceptable terms also.  We are asking for your continued support in mastery of the basic facts, 10-20.

In reading we will complete our Around Town unit and begin our next theme, Amazing Animals.  And in writing we will continue to study Authors as Mentors and begin a unit on non-fiction writing as well.

We will extend our unit on Citizenship by learning more about American symbols and famous Americans.  As February is Black History Month we will also be focusing on significant contributions made by many Black Americans.

We will continue to use standard and non-standard units of measurement to measure a variety of objects.  The children will explore the concepts of temperature, volume, weight and distance.

Our Book-It requirement is to read two non-fiction books.  The signed Book-It slip is due by Tuesday, Feb. 28th.  Please encourage your child to reach the monthly goal.   We would like to thank you for all you do to support your child’s learning at Southlawn School.
