Ways to support Word Study at home

       l.  Look for and assist with Word Study homework as needed.  Encourage your child to talk about the spelling feature currently being studied.

    2.  When reading to or with your child, talk about interesting words and what they mean.  Help your child learn to use these words in conversation or in written communications.

    3.  Have your child record words they find when reading which follow the  feature being studied.

    4.  Encourage your child to write letters, e-mail notes, and thank you notes to relatives and friends using words that follow the features learned.

    5.  Write notes to your child which include words [or pictures] that follow a feature that has been studied.  Notes can be tucked away in a lunchbox.
