June, 2008
Dear Parents,
What an exciting time of the year! It seems so quickly that we reach the final steps of the school year. There is some comfort to knowing that the perception of time having moved quickly is a great sign. Before we know it, we will be looking back to having worked, played, and learned together with strong memories. Let’s remember to celebrate this milestone and reflect on our many successes together. Wait, there is more left to do…
Assessments seem more visible at this time of the year. Actually, information gathering that informs instructional planning and classroom lessons occurs daily. We start with grade level and content outcomes to plan each lesson with the question “what do we want children to know and be able to do?” Information from formal and informal assessments is used to in an ongoing way to monitor success and determine next steps. More importantly, we interpret data against identified benchmarks to check overall instructional trends. With children, we often refer to year-end assessments as the “projects to help us learn about our school and teaching.” It’s true! Our School Based Planning Team, faculty and staff will begin using this year’s data to develop specific goals for Learning and Achievement for the 2008-09 school year.
There is still much to do this month. Thank you to the PTSA for the hard work and preparation for our upcoming Family Picnic and Carnival Night (June 13th). It always proves to be a wonderful evening filled with laughter and enjoyment. This year’s Sports Day and student picnic will take place on Friday, June 20th. We will hold our annual Flag Day celebration on Friday, June 13th at 1:30pm. The recognition of our “Leaders” will take place during a ceremony and Third Grade Breakfast on Tuesday, June 17th. Specific notice regarding this special celebration for 3rd grade students will be coming soon.
As the summer draws nearer, we are searching for ways to utilize the time as productively as possible. Summer events include the Summer English Language Arts and Math Labs for children, various teacher conferences, and professional development opportunities for adults. We will finish the placement process, staffing, and scheduling for the 2008-09 school year. Every decision that is made is with the best interest of success for children.
Thank you for a wonderful school year filled with learning, laughter and the fun that comes with growing children. It continues to be my great honor to be a part of the Seneca family! Best wishes for a summer filled with opportunities for play, rest, and relaxation. As always, do not hesitate to contact me at 336-1620. I would be happy to speak or meet with you at any time.
