Student Library Procedures **4th Grade Students have a 36 minute scheduled library class once every cycle. During this time, they will have a library lesson and an opportunity to check out two books. Additional books may be signed out for reports and assignments. **5th and 6th Grades come during CORE for regular book exchanges and classes are arranged to co-inside with the classroom curriculum. **Books may be returned any time but are due in two cycles. Please return materials to the book return desk. Books that are lost or damaged must be paid for. **Students are welcome in the library at any time to check out books. A pass from the classroom teacher is required. **Students will be allowed to visit the rest room or water fountain while in the library, but they should wait until instruction is finished and then ask Mrs. Mayer or Mrs. Semrau.
Library Materials In order to support the mission of the school, there are a variety of materials: * Reference books - marked with an "R" and then the Dewey Decimal number from 000-999, are used in the library. Students are encouraged to come in to read and take notes from these materials at any time. * Information books - marked with the Dewey Decimal numbers 000-999 are full of facts and information about everything imaginable. These books may be checked out for your reading pleasure and research. * Fiction books - marked with an "FIC" for fiction or "SC" for story collection, are picture books, chapter books, and any other story book formats. These books may be checked out for your reading pleasure. * Periodicals - current issues are kept in the library for reading enjoyment or circulated to staff. Back issues are available for checkout for three days. * Professional Collection - these books marked with a "P" and then a Dewey Number from 000-999, are for staff and parents to use for their professional activities in teaching and rearing children. * Audiovisual collection - this collection is for classroom use and includes equipment, videos, audio tapes, teaching kits, charts, maps, tapes and many other items to enhance teaching. * Computer services - our computers have several programs for use in research. WORLD BOOK is a multimedia encyclopedia with text, pictures, sound and video clips on many different subjects. INTERNET service is through Netscape where searches on Yahooligans may be performed. WORD PROCESSING - there is a word processor on each machine which students may use when not being used by classes in the library or for research. The first purpose of the library computers is for research.
