The OPAC is our Online Public Access Catalog--we are in the computerized information age! The OPAC is fun to use. Read and see how.

 You can do all kinds of searches on the OPAC, but the most common ones are Title, Author and Subject. The opening screen will list these three.

Title

1. To do a title search, use the up or down arrow key to choose title box.

2. Type the title, or part of the title with an asterisk (*) in the box. Leave off beginning words if they are A, AN, or THE.

3. Press Enter.

4. Now you will see a list of titles. If your title is not highlighted, press the up or down arrow key to choose the book you want.

5. Press Enter.

6. Now you should see the expanded record for your title. The CALL NUMBER should be in the upper LEFT hand corner.

7. Read the notes in the middle of the screen to see if it is the right book.  It will usually tell you if it has an index.

8. At the bottom of the screen there is a list of options which will give you information on availability and printing options.

9. When you are finished, press the ESCAPE key several times to get back to the opening screen. This is a considerate thing to do!

Author

1. To do an Author search, use up or down arrow key to choose author box.

 2. In the box, type in the author's LAST NAME (no comma) then the author's FIRST NAME.

3. Press Enter.

4. You will see a list of authors. Press the up or down arrow key to select the one you want.

5. Press Enter.

6. Now you will see the list of books that your author wrote. Choose one of these to look at just like in Title Search.

7. When you are finished, press ESCAPE key several times to get back to the opening screen.  This is a considerate thing to do!

Subject

1. To do a subject search, use up or down arrow key to choose subject box.

2. In the box, type in the subject you are looking for (spelling counts).

3. Press Enter.

4. Now you will see a list of books with your subject heading. (Each book in the library has at least one subject heading, so that you can find a book about each topic.) Press the up or down arrow key to choose the one you want

5. Press Enter.

6. Now you see the expanded record for your title. The CALL NUMBER should be in the upper LEFT hand corner.
