Nonfiction 000 - 999
Everyone
is invited to look through the nonfiction section to find some really neat books that give you all
kinds of REAL information, facts, pictures and photographs.
The call numbers in this section start with a number. This number comes from the Dewey Decimal Classification System. Melvil Dewey made up this system over a hundred years ago, and it still works well today for finding information. Look at the top of the bookshelves to find the main classification numbers (100, 200, 300, etc.). Then look at the labels on each bookshelf to see what number comes first on that shelf. Here is an example of a nonfiction call number for Flying With the Eagle, Racing the Great Bear: Stories from Native North America by Joseph Bruchac. 398.2 BRU The 398.2 tells us that it is near the end of the 300 section. The BRU tells us that it will be with the Joseph Bruchac books in that section.
