Narrowing your topic

First, choose a topic you are interested in, and would like to know more about. Choose one that would interest your audience, if you like.  Be sure that you can find information about your choice (ask your librarian about this).

A General-to-Specific Triangle will help you narrow your topic. If you choose something way too big, it will be impossible for you to finish. Here is an example:

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

   * *         Animals        * *       General

      * *     Mammals    * *          Narrow

        * *      Bears     * *            NARROWER

           * Polar Bears *               Limited Topic

                * *       * *

                   * * *

                      *

Animals is way too big! You could write a very thick book.  The triangle shows you how to narrow it down to something a little easier -- and Polar Bear is still a very big topic!
