How will I record the information I find? How will I give credit to these resources? When you start to use information from one of your sources, you either read it, listen to it, or watch it. Then you extract (that means take out) the information from the source. Sometimes you rewrite it in your own words, and sometimes you want exactly what is written or said there (this is called a direct quote).
Questions you should ask yourself in this step are: 1. What information is in this source? When you read something for information you are doing three things: A. Identifying key words you are looking for B. Skimming and scanning the text C. Taking out the information 2. Which information is good for my problem or question? You should always ask questions about everything you read or hear. Don't believe something just because it is written down or it's on the TV or the computer! 3. How do I keep track of the information I've found? Citing your sources. (see below) Drawing a concept map. Drawing other kinds of pictures or graph. 4. How do I give credit to my sources? Works Cited (follow link)
