Homework Expectations

Homework is an important way to reinforce many of the skills taught in school.  You will have several assignments during the school day for which you are responsible for.  Rogers Middle School issues a homework planner to help you become organized.  Therefore, it is important to write down all of your assignments and have your parents check to make sure you have completed your work.

If for any reason you are unable to complete an assignment, please provide a note explaining why the homework could not be completed and it will be excused for that day.  However, the assignment will automatically become homework to be completed at home and returned to school the following day.  If there is something you do not understand, please see me to schedule a time to go over that particular assignment. If you are absent, you will have up to two school days to complete any assignment.

Homework and class work will be randomly collected in class and checked.  This is to ensure that everyone completes their homework to the best of their ability for their own success in the classroom.  ALL homework assignments will be written on the homework board and you will be required to write these assignments down in your planner.  If no homework is issued, you should write ‘no homework’.

It is your responsibility as a student to return work WITHOUT any reminders. If you are late completing an assignment, you will lose five points for each day the assignment is late (without a parent excuse).  There are a number of consequences for not completing homework which may include being sent to Quiet Study to complete missing work, staying after school or coming in before school, a phone call home, or getting a zero.

Grading Expectations

Your  grade will be determined by your effort and performance on all assignments and tests.  Participation in class combined with your grades on class work, homework, tests, and writing pieces all contribute to your final average for each marking period.  You will receive a midterm progress report at the half-way point of each marking period ONLY if your grade is below an 80.   If you feel you need extra help in a particular area or topic, please do not hesitate to let me know so that we may make arrangements prior to a unit test.
