I have taken some time to develop this webpage to inform
students and their families about what we are doing everyday
in room 302! Below you will find a list of topics and
subtopics that you may navigate your way around. Please click

Our Curriculum
5th Grade Core
Core is a block of the day, which meets for 135 minutes or
three periods of your day. Core is Language Arts, where you
and the rest of our class focus on reading, writing,
listening, and speaking. In this block, you will explore
words through Word Study and language skills, followed by
writing and reading.
In this classroom, we are all different and some of us are
stronger in some subjects, while others sometimes need more
support. We will spend time in appropriate guided reading
groups, reading and writing independently, and also
participating in whole class instruction.
Daily reading both in school and at home is very
important!You will be expected to have a book at school to
read independently every day!! You can borrow a book from
our classroom library, the school library, or bring one in
from home. Each night, you child will be expected to read
silently for at least 20 minutes.
5th Grade Social
Studies
In fifth grade Social
Studies we build on prior knowledge, while gathering and
learning about the United States, Colonization, and Government
as we begin to prepare for the New York State 5th Grade Social Studies
test.
Following those units we continue
to focus on industrialization, expansion, and globalization in
the United States. For the remainder of the school year we
will discuss Canada and Latin America. We will use Essential
Questions (questions that make you think and reflect on what
you are learning) to find common themes and similarities
throughout the year.
