PTSA Offers Math/Science/Technology Scholarships
to West Irondequoit Jr. and Sr. High Students
|
The West Irondequoit Central PTSA is offering students at Dake Junior High and Irondequoit High School an opportunity to earn a scholarship to pursue further learning in the math/science/technology area. We wish to encourage students to investigate independently the area of math, science or technology that appeals to them and to pursue it with enthusiasm
This scholarship may be used for a camp, a conference or seminar but must be related to the sciences. The activity should take place during the summer of 2010 and may not conflict with school attendance, unless sanctioned by the district.
Each scholarship will cover the tuition or entry fee up to $100.00. Checks will be issued payable to the activity sponsor. We recommend that applicants register for the program of their choice, paying the program amount less $100 so that they secure a space. Scholarship recipients will be notified by May 21, 2010.
A wide variety of programs fulfill the math/science/technology requirement. Many are offered by local universities, colleges and museums, but the offer is not limited to these organizations. We have attached a list of programs that qualify for the scholarship, but you need not limit your selection to this list.
Dake and high school students who would like to participate in a math/science/technology program this summer may apply for the scholarship using the “WICPTSA Math/Science/Technology Scholarship 2010” application form. This may be found on the PTSA Web site: www.WICPTSA.org. or at the child’s school. A recommendation by a math, science or technology teacher is required. The student information and the accompanying paragraph MUST BE handwritten by the applicant.
Applications must be postmarked by Friday, May 7, 2010. Please complete the form in full and mail to Holly-Hammond Streb, 175 Sachem Way, Rochester, New York 14617. Questions may be directed to Holly @ 467-9153, hhstreb@yahoo.com or to your child's math/science/technology teacher. Applications and letters of recommendation will be accepted via e-mail. |
