IRONDEQUOIT HIGH SCHOOL: A DECADE OF TRADITION

IHS Qualifies to Compete in the LifeSmarts State Competition for the 10th Consecutive Year

Out of over 130 Irondequoit High School business students who took the on-line LifeSmarts tests, and the 20 IHS students who competed in the in-person "Buzzer" playoff - the following students finished in the top five Rachel Nolan (Sr.), Bill Finan (Sr.),  Maggie Baum (Sr.), Mike Calabro (Sr.), Jonathon Yioulos (Sr.).

As a result, these students will represent Irondequoit High School at the LifeSmarts (www.lifesmarts.org) State competition on March 6th in Albany. The top 12 teams in New York State will compete for the right to be called state champion. This is the 10th consecutive year that Irondequoit High School has been invited to compete in the in-person LifeSmarts state competition.

LifeSmarts” is the ultimate consumer challenge for high school students. It offers students of all backgrounds and abilities, in grades 9-12, an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of real-life marketplace issues in five key areas: personal finance; health and safety; environment; technology; and consumer rights and responsibilities. This year, more than 800 students from over 50 high schools in New York participated in the “LifeSmarts” competition.

The winner of that contest will represent New York State at the National LifeSmarts contest in Orlando, FL in April.
