The Music Department at Irondequoit High School announces the

2008 Major Work Concert

Wednesday, April 2

7:30 p.m.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church

St. Mary’s Place

Rochester, NY

There is no admission charge.

More than 250 members of the orchestras, wind ensemble and choral groups will perform major works of the 20th century, including:

Ceremony of Carols

Benjamin Britten

Gospel Mass

Robert Ray

O Fortuna (Carmina Burana)

Carl Orff

Now entering its eighth year, each concert is planned around music of a different era. Year one featured music of the Baroque era; year two comprised performances of Classical music, year three music of the Romantic period; and this, year four of a second cycle, features music of the 20th Century. Students who participate throughout their high school career will have the opportunity to experience music from each time period.

The concert is an enormous undertaking, bringing together members of the IHS Chorale, IHS Choristers, IHS Chamber Singers, the IHS Orchestras, members of the IHS Wind Ensemble and West Irondequoit Music Department Faculty.

Members of the West Irondequoit music faculty performing with the students include:

Stephen Beamish – oboe

Patty Welch – tuba

Nancy Rank - clarinet

Anna Conti – voice

Kelly Petro - voice

Held in St. Mary’s Church, “The concert sounds amazing,” said Kristen Graham, IHS music teacher. “We love the feeling of sound in that big space.”
