IRONDEQUOIT BUSINESS STUDENTS

put on Fashion Shows for Charity

Irondequoit High School's Fashion and Entertainment Business class held a fashion show on January 15, 2008 at 6:00 pm in the Irondequoit High School Auditorium.  The Fashion Show consisted of two 20 minute fashion shows managed, planned and coordinated by the two Fashion and Entertainment classes taught by Mrs. Jeanine Lent.

Each of the classes chose a charity to donate all the money raised.  The Pink Team coordinated a "Red Carpet Extravaganza" themed fashion show and raised over $450 for Noah Passero, the son of Iroquois teacher Wendy Passero, who has recently been receiving medical treatment for his heart.  The Blue Team’s show was a "Kids 4 Kidz Game Show" theme with proceeds benefiting the March of Dimes and the students raised over $380. Tickets to the show cost one dollar with an option to donate more.

A message went out to the Irondequoit teaching community at the end of December that Wendy’s son was receiving treatment at Mt. Sinai hospital in NYC and the costs for the family were escalating each day he was there. “One of the teachers mentioned Noah to us and we were so motivated to help. It was so exciting we had over 350 people watching and a surprise visit from Noah’s grandfather who extended his family’s gratitude for all our hard work” said Mi’chelle Nguyen, Pink Team Class President.

The Fashion Show is an apprentice style assignment that is graded as the final exam for the students in the Fashion and Entertainment Business classes. Mrs. Lent explains that “this challenge is the culminating project that demonstrates all the learning we did in class. Students are responsible for all of the management functions of this event including marketing, accounting, sales, talent management, site management, etc.”

Students will also be graded on their effort, teamwork, preparation of the event, number of tickets sold, money raised, number of people in attendance and professionalism.  "Students are using all of their creativity, accounting, computer, people and management skills to make sure this event is a huge success.  All of the students are putting in extra time and are dedicated to their chosen charity.  It is such a great learning experience and rewarding to watch," Mrs. Lent comments.
