IRONDEQUOIT BUSINESS STUDENTS
put on Fashion Shows for Charity
Irondequoit High School's Computer Applications: Fashion and Entertainment class held a fashion show on January 16, 2007 at 6:00 pm in the Irondequoit High School Auditorium. The Fashion Show consisted of three 20 minute fashion shows managed, planned and coordinated by one of the three Fashion and Entertainment classes taught by Mrs. Jeanine Lent.
Each of the three classes chose a charity to donate all the money raised. The VIPink group is coordinating a "Be Your Own Person" theme fashion show and proceeds will be donated to the March of Dimes. The Yellow Superstars team is coordinating a "Reach for the Stars" theme event and all proceeds will go to the Make A Wish Foundation. The final show will be hosted by the Blue Tube Team and will have a "TV Show" theme with proceeds benefiting the Suzanne Dreher Memorial Scholarship. Tickets to the show cost one dollar with an option to donate more.
The Fashion Show is an apprentice style assignment that is graded as the final exam for the students in the Computer Applications: Fashion and Entertainment classes. Mrs. Lent explains that “this challenge is the culminating project that demonstrates all the learning we did in class. Students are responsible for all of the management functions of this event including marketing, accounting, sales, talent management, site management, etc.”
Mary McCombs, RNews reporter was the celebrity judge and graded each show based on the students’ professionalism, excitement for the cause, coordination, creativity and overall image of the show. Students will also be graded on their effort, teamwork, preparation of the event, number of tickets sold, money raised, number of people in attendance and professionalism. "Students are using all of their creativity, accounting, computer, people and management skills to make sure this event is a huge success. All of the students are putting in extra time and are dedicated to their chosen charity. It is such a great learning experience and rewarding to watch" Mrs. Lent comments. The end result is over $1,000 donated to charity. The final totals for the classes are $307.85 donated to the March of Dimes, $379.67 donated to the Make a Wish Foundation and $380.21 to the Suzanne Dreher Memorial Scholarship Fund. Unlike The Apprentice, in this challenge all of the students are winners and no one gets fired!
