LOCAL STUDENTS EARN NATIONAL MARKETING EDUCATION HONOR AWARD

 

Irondequoit High School seniors Laura Barry, Michael Calabro, Maggie Baum and MaryKate Vadala are the recipients of the 2007 DECA National Marketing Education Honor Award (http://deca.org/pdf/GdHonAwd.pdf ).  This award, given annually by DECA, a national association of marketing students, recognizes achievement in academic excellence, leadership skills, DECA involvement and school and community service.  The award recipient must be a DECA member in his/her senior year of high school with a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or better for each of the high school semesters. 

 

Michael Calabro is the son of Joe and Charleen Calabro of  Irondequoit, Larry Barry is the daughter of Helen and John Barry of Irondequoit, MaryKate Vadala is the daughter of Mike and Peggy Vadala of Irondequoit and Maggie Baum is the daughter of William Baum of Irondequoit and Libby Hearne of Webster.

 

DECA is a career and technical student organization composed of more than 170,000 marketing education students who are interested in entrepreneurial, marketing and/or management careers.  DECA provides the student members with educational and leadership opportunities through the partnership of the marketing education instructional programs and the business and industry community.  DECA’s goal is to provide for the student members:

·    occupational competencies needed for careers in marketing, management and entrepreneurship

·    leadership skills

·    social and business etiquette

·    an understanding and appreciation of civic responsibility

·    ethical behavior in personal and business relationships

·    an understanding of the role of the free enterprise system in the global economy
