IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On June 15, the West
Irondequoit Board of Education appointed Marcia Bovenzi
to serve a one-year term of office, a term which became available upon the
death of board member Suzanne Dreher.
Mrs. Bovenzi
will complete her second term of service on the board on June 30 of this
year. She did not run for re-election
this spring citing increased family commitments. “The decision by Board of Education member
Marcia Bovenzi to step forward and fill the seat of
Suzanne Dreher is a testament to Mrs. Bovenzi’s commitment, ability and values. Marcia’s continued presence on our board for
the next year provides us with continuity and strength,” said board president
Charles Perreaud.
Mrs. Dreher
had completed one year of a three year term.
On June 8, board members consulted with a legal advisor to clarify the
board’s responsibility to appoint a successor who will serve for one year and
then have the option to run in the next election. In May 2007, there will be two seats up for
election, in addition to Mrs. Dreher’s seat. The two candidates who receive the highest
number of votes will earn three year terms, the candidate receiving the third
highest number will complete the final year of Mrs. Dreher’s
term.
Mrs. Bovenzi
and newly elected board member Stacey Crowder will take the oath of office on
July 6.
