Dear Families,

Welcome to another year of learning "through the physical" at the primary level in West Irondequoit! To ensure the safety and appropriate learning environment for all students, I am asking if would assist your child (children) in wearing sneakers (PLEASE NO CROCS-they are "gummy" and can inhibit free movement of the feet) and comfortable clothes in which to move on Physical Education days. Any clothes which you are afraid to wrinkle or move in for fear of a tear may be best worn on another day.

I would also like to communicate with you our Physical Education classroom rules.

         1. We take care of ourselves.

         2. We take care of each other.

         3. We take care of equipment.

Consequences are as follows for each class meeting

         1. Strike one-time out, student returns when ready and willing to follow rules

         2. Strike two-time out, student returns with teacher permission.

         3. Strike 3-time-out, student unable to return to class that day.

If a student obtains 3 strikes during one class or consistently presents behaviors which are not compatible with classroom learning success, I will call you and we can work on solving any problems together. I have had much success over my 25 years teaching Physical Education with this approach and communication is the key. Please feel free to drop me a note if there is anything that is concerning your child about me or PE or if there is any other concern. My phone number is 315-1429.

Thank you for supporting your child. I look forward to providing an atmosphere of learning in a physically and emotionally safe environment.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Ann Martin
