by Jennifer Birds are beautiful animals. Almost all birds have different calls. Different birds eat different things like beetles, worms and other small insects.
All birds look different; some are tall, short, skinny and fat. They have a lot of feathers. And you can't see the skin. Some birds have long beaks, yet some have short. They have two wings and most of them can fly. Most birds have a good sense of hearing. They lay eggs with hard shells. Every single bird has two feet. As you can see birds are very unique animals. The Flamingo is a very interesting species of bird. The flamingo usually rests by standing on one leg. They also have long thin necks and legs. Flamingoes fly with their legs stretched out behind them. Flamingoes have webbed feet like ducks. They also have big beaks that are curved. Flamingoes live about 15 to 20 years old. They live even longer in captivity. The flamingoes are 3 to 5 feet long and 91to 150 centimeters tall. The color of a Flamingo is a bright red to pale pink. Big flocks of flamingoes usually live together near lakes and marshes. They make their nests into a mound with mud. The mother lays her eggs on top of the nest and the egg hatches after about 30 days. Young Flamingoes leave the nest after about two weeks. They scoop out shrimp and other tiny creatures from the water. They also eat shellfish and organisms called algae. Now you can see the flamingo is a very unique bird. |
