Peregrine Falcon

by Tim

Birds are not just all about flying.  Birds are more about field-marks, calls, and size.  All known birds in the world have a beak.  Most birds have three kinds of feathers, down feathers, flight feathers, and contour feathers. All birds are warm blooded,  but not all birds have hollow bones, for example, penguins and Ostriches (flightless birds).

The Peregrine Falcon looks very powerful.  Peregrine Falcons have black wings, with brown spots on a white chest.  It has black side burns, too.  They have a curved, sharp beak, and curved, sharp talons.  Peregrine Falcons are 16 to 19 inches long with a wingspan of 39 to  42 inches.  They weigh about 2 pounds.  Peregrine Falcons make a sound like kack-kack-kack-kack. The Peregrine Falcon is an amazing looking bird.

The Peregrine Falcon builds its nest in odd places. They build their nests on the side of cliffs. They lay 3 to 4 eggs in April.  Don't you think it is a little dangerous where they build their nests?

Peregrine Falcons are meat-eaters. For  example they eat black birds, jays, swifts,  doves, song birds and shore birds. Can you tell they are a danger to other birds.

Peregrine Falcons are fast. They can go up to 60 mph flying level.  They can fly up to 360 km/h in a downward dive.  They fly so fast in a dive that they pin birds on the ground when they fly next to them from the wind, then they might eat them.  Didn't I tell you that they're fast?

I think that the Peregrine Falcon is an amazing bird, I hope you think so too.
