American Woodcock

by Lauren

Did you know that all birds are different sizes and shapes?  But these are the things that they are the same.   All birds  have feathers, lay hard shelled eggs, have two legs, have two wings and have beaks.  Most birds can see much better than other animals.  Also birds  are vertebrates, which means animals with backbones.

The American Woodcock is an excellent bird.  It has a very long bill .  They are about 8 to 11 inches.  They have very large, dark eye set high in there head.  They have  gray and brown back, with black and chestnut feathers interspersed .  The American Woodcock has very dumpy short legs short tail rounded wings.  It is a very short bird.

American Woodcock lives in the eastern half of the United States and southern Canada.  It also lives in moist woods.

The American woodcock eats interesting things.  One of the things they eat is earthworms.

The American woodcock builds its nest of dry leaves on the ground.  They build it on the ground because they camouflage .

I now love American Woodcocks, all because of this little report .
