The Bald Eagle

by Jake

Birds are a fantastic species of animal.  All birds have wings, yet a lot of larger birds, like the ostrich can't fly.  Birds have hard shelled eggs.  Every bird has a beak, and two legs.  Birds have great eyesight and can see better than other animals, including all humans.  Like there eyesight, they have terrific hearing.  Most birds have 3 feathers: down, contour, and flight feathers.  Birds have a lot of similarities and differences.

The bald eagle is a  fantastic species of  bird.  The eagle has a white head and tail.  They have black feathers throughout their body.  An adult male is 30 in. tall and weighs about 8-9½ pounds.  Their wingspan is 7-8 feet and wingbeat is 50-75 miles per hour when it soars.  The bald eagle's sound is high pitched and can be heard for miles.  Here are their fieldmarks and characteristics.

Some bald eagles migrate during the seasons.  Like the northern  eagles.  They migrate south because they can't find food through the ice.  The southern bald eagles don't migrate because it's warmer south than it is north and it can find food fine there.

Bald eagles nest are  monstrous.  They are 9ft. wide and 12 ft. deep.  their nest are filled with branches and grass, while sticks and leaves cover it.  They live near lakes and streams on a cliff or high branches.  some nest can weigh 2 tons.  If you ever got a chance to be inside of a nest you would have a large amount of room left.

Their eggs are amazing.  Here's some information about them.  Their eggs are 3-4 inches long at the largest.  They have a fantastic color it is a speckled off-white or buff colored.  They can lay 1-3 eggs at a time.  Their incubation period are 35-40 days.

The bald eagle has an incredible diet.  Their horrendous scent of taste.  They eat a lot of things like: fish, rabbits, turtles, ducks, geese, and other small animals.  Their scent makes them eat dead animals.

You probably know that bald eagles are the national bird of the United States of America.  Bald eagles can live in the wild for 30 years and by captivity for 50 years.  The bald eagles wingspan helps it soar.

Bald eagles are a phenomenal vertebrate.    The bald eagle has awesome features.  They are one of the best kind of birds and I hope you liked the bald eagle.
