Iroquois Science Teachers
Mrs. Engel
Mrs. Engel currently teaches 6th grade science and math at Iroquois School. Mrs. Engel started teaching in the Greece Central Schools, she returned to West Irondequoit in 1978 as a tutor; she has been teaching full-time since 1985. Mrs. Engel is married with 2 children. She lives in Penfield with her husband who is a Kodak retiree, and is now a professor at SUNY Geneseo. Mrs. Engel's children attended West Irondequoit Schools; Marc is married, lives in San Francisco; and is a graduate of Cornell and UCLA School of Law. Marc has two adorable children: Hannah and Max. Shana is married, lives in Connecticut; and is a graduate of SUNY Binghamton. Shana has an adorable son named Andrew, and a daughter named Alison. Mrs. Engel has taught Foreign Language Survey Course for 6th graders, On Target, Reading, Science, and Math in West Irondequoit! Mrs. Engel enjoys time with her family-especially the grandkids, knitting, and is president of the West Irondequoit Teachers' Association. Most of all, Mrs. Engel loves teaching. She feels it is the best job because of the wonderful staff members and delightful, energetic children at Iroquois.
Mr. VerWeire
Mr. VerWeire currently is teaching 5th grade science and 6th grade math at Iroquois School. He was a first grade teacher at Colebrook for the past 19 years. He is also the J.V. Boys Soccer coach in his 14th season. Mr. VerWeire lives in Greece with his two daughters Grace and Olivia. Grace is a 2nd grader at Colebrook and Olivia is a Kindergartner at Northwood Elementary in Hilton. Mr. VerWeire loves the Yankees, Buffalo Bills, concerts and fishing. Most of all, he loves his daughters.
Mrs. Alberti is a 5th grade Social Studies teacher, and a 5th grade Science teacher at Iroquois School. Mrs. Alberti began teaching in the city schools in 1992, and came to West Irondequoit in 1998. Mrs. Alberti lives in Chili with her husband Scott who is a Monroe County Sheriff. She has a son named Antonio. Mrs. Alberti enjoys spending time with family and friends and traveling.
Ms. Boomer
Ms. Boomer currently teaches 5th and 6th grade science at Iroquois school. Ms. Boomer has been teaching since 1988. Ms. Boomer is the science contact teacher at Iroquois and runs the 6th grade science club. Ms. Boomer lives in Fairport with her husband and 2 children. Her husband is "Mr. Mom", and is working on the great American novel in his spare time. Her son Calvin is a sophomore at SUNY Buffalo and her daughter ZuZu is a seventh grader at Martha Brown Middle School. Ms. Boomer began teaching first grade in East Harlem, NYC. She has also taught 5th grade reading at Iroquois and 7th grade math and science at Dake. Ms. Boomer loves to read, spend time with her family, walk, camp, be outdoors, watch TV, go to the movies, and of course TEACH!
