Meet the Fifth-Grade Core Team

Mrs. Stivers

Hello!  I'm happy to introduce myself to you and tell you a little about my background.  I have been teaching at Iroquois since 1988, mostly in fourth grade, and now I'm a fifth grade Core teacher.  I previously taught Core in 1997, when Core was social studies, spelling, and writing.  I must say I truly enjoy working with students in reading, writing and word study.  It is so wonderful to see students grow in their language abilities throughout the year.

Previous to working at Iroquois, I have taught 3rd, 4th, and 6th grades in the following cities: Geneva, Albany, Lions, and the town of Rush- Henrietta.  I'm so glad I have chosen West Irondequoit to continue my career in education.  Because of their beliefs and principles that all children can learn, and our continuous staff development in numerous areas, it is a terrific place to work.  The camaraderie at Iroquois makes it a wonderful place to work.

At home I have two terrific kids in middle school and two gray, tiger cats named Tuey and Dimey.  All four of them keep me very busy!  I enjoy watching my children play sports, helping them with their homework, and simply being their mom.  When I have free time, I enjoy gardening, cross-stitching, reading and decorating.  I look forward to another fun-filled year at Iroquois, and spending time with my creative 5th graders.

Ms. Fickess will be sharing her thoughts with you shortly.  Stop back soon.

Mrs. Spitz

I am very excited to be returning to Iroquois School for my fourth year. My first three years here in West Irondequoit flew by and it seems that this year is going by even faster!

As a graduate of West Irondequoit, I know the importance of education in our community and look forward to helping our children be successful!

I attended Brockport State for my undergraduate degree and am currently enrolled at Nazareth College. I am  finishing my Master's Degree program in Inclusive Education.

When I am not teaching, you are more than likely to find me in Old Forge, NY, my home away from home. Not only do I love to travel, but I also enjoy playing board games, hanging out with my family and relaxing in front of the fireplace. My two puppies, Deezle who is 15 months and Milo who is14 months, keep me busy as well!

I am looking forward to another wonderful year in 5th grade. Feel free to stop by and say "hello"!
