Introduction to FrontPage 2000

A local web directory should be considered your "work in progress".  This directory is on your computer's hard drive.  You will need to publish this information to the remote web server for the world to actually view your web site. 

1. Select File --> New --> Web
2. The New box opens as shown below.

3. Select the Empty Web icon (under the Web Sites tab)
4. To the right of your screen under Options where it says: "Specify the location of the new web:"  type the drive on which you will save your work, and a name for your web.  For example:
         A:\Your_Name
5. (The name could be your username for a personal web, course or class name, or the full (or abbreviated) name of a department or organization.) (ex: C:\My Documents\My Webs\English 8)

Note:  You do not want any spaces in your directory names, file names, or folder names when working with the web.  If you would normally use a space use an underscore ( _ ) or a dash ( - ) to combine the names of your directories, files, and folders.

4. Click OK to create your local web
5. The Create New Web box will open and show that the directory is being created as shown below.

6. Once you have created your local web, FrontPage 2000 will start with your new web directory open as shown in the picture below.  It automatically adds two folders into your directory.  The _private and images folders. 

• The _private folder is for files that you do not want to be public to people on the web (once you publish).
• The images folder is for .gif and .jpg files (image files).
