top and bottom margins are 1 inch

Be sure your
left and right margins are 1.25 inches

Put your last
name followed by a space and the page number in the upper right hand corner
of each page, one-half inch below the top. The title page is not
numbered.
A formal research
paper generally has three (3) parts: a title page, the body of your paper,
and a Works Cited (bibliography) page. You may also be asked to
have a Works Consulted page.

Each teacher may
have different requirements for a title page. Generally, about 1/3
of the way down the page and centered is the title of your paper. Then
halfway down the page and centered is your name. Then 2/3 of the way down
the page is the course name, the instructor's name, and the date; these
can be centered or justified right.

separate page at the end of your paper headed WORKS CITED

Type entries
single-spaced BUT double-space between entries

Alphabetize
entries by the first word, ignoring a beginning “A”, “An”, or “The”
-
Never number
entries, never bullet entries, and never separate entries by media
-
Indent each
entry after the first line [Go to Format on the toolbar and
choose Paragraph; under Special click the down
arrow and select Hanging]

What to cite:

Direct quotations

Statistics, figures,
illustrations, diagrams even if you have taken the data and created your
own graph or chart

Dates that are not
“common knowledge”

Facts, ideas, opinions,
judgments, or claims of others even if you have summarized or paraphrased
them in your own words
How to cite:
-
Only requires
author’s last name and page number in parentheses before the end punctuation;
use first name only if two or more authors have same last name.

Do not use
any punctuation inside the parentheses
-
If there is
no author, use as much of the title as needed to enable the reader to easily
locate it among your Works Cited.

If there are
no page numbers, you do not list any.
