Welcome to Irondequoit High School!

Irondequoit High School’s principal is Mr. Patrick McCue. The assistant principal for 9th and 11th grade is Mr. Wade Bianco. The assistant principal for 10th and 12th grade is Ms. Barbara Zelazny. We are proud to share with you the traditions of excellence and Peak Performance here in West Irondequoit. IHS is a community of learners in which each student is encouraged to reach his or her full potential, with the opportunity to take advantage of our comprehensive academic program, numerous interscholastic sports teams, award-winning music and performing arts programs, co-curricular clubs, and activities. The high school is noted for its dedicated and innovative faculty, and the West Irondequoit community is highly supportive of providing a climate in which all students will learn. As we like to say, “Each child belongs to all of us.”

We are especially proud of our 94 percent Regents diploma rate, our 64 percent Advanced Regents diploma rate, and our high level of Advanced Placement participation and achievement. Half of our seniors in 2007 graduated with AP credit, and we expect to administer more than 700 AP exams this year, continuing our nationally recognized AP tradition. At IHS, we are preparing students through the three R’s of the 21st century: RIGOR, RELEVANCE and RELATIONSHIPS!

One of the keys to student academic success is strong home-school communication. When parents and the school share common goals and expectations, students receive a clear message. We have established several convenient ways to make this communication as seamless as possible:

  •  All teachers and counselors have individual e-mail and voice mail, which is accessible on the web site (see link below). Parents and teachers are encouraged to initiate contact to share student progress and to address concerns before they become problems.

  • Parents can subscribe to the IHS E-News service (see link below) to receive e-mail updates on school announcements, upcoming dates, and timely information – often the day it happens.

  • Our school newsletter, IHS News, is published several times a year and mailed home.

  • The student-produced morning news/announcement show, Around Our School, is broadcast at 7:55 each morning on Cable Channel 12.

  • Our web site includes many links to teacher web pages including information on curriculum, homework, and upcoming projects.

  •  The College and Career Center posts its newsletter, The Chronicle, on its web page each week, including essential information on college visits, scholarships, internship and shadowing opportunities, and assistance with finding employment. Hard copies are distributed to juniors and seniors in homeroom and available to anyone in the College and Career Center.

The leadership team welcomes feedback from parents, students, alumni, and community members. Please feel free to use the links above and below to e-mail us with your questions, comments, and suggestions.

We wish all of our students a successful school year!
