GLOBAL HISTORY IA

Global History IA is a two year social studies course required by New York State. Global History I explores world history, its patterns and connections, from the Ancient World (4000 B.C. to 500 A.D.) to the Age of Political Revolutions (1750-1815). (Link to Global History 1A Annual Plan) Global History II will continue the study into the present. (Link to Global History II Annual Plan) Global History includes a strong emphasis on areas such as geography and the historical links between regions. A comprehensive N.Y.S. Regents exam will be taken at the end of Global History II and will cover material from both years of study. Therefore, it is essential that your student retain all notes, review guides and materials for both years. I also require each student purchase the review book, Keys to Understanding Global History, which is available in the West Irondequoit bookstore.

Since this is an advanced Global History course, it is expected that the students are willing to delve into the curriculum with a high level of commitment and effort. The curriculum that your student covers is the same as in the regents course, however we take the time to develop a deeper understanding and consistently look to enhance critical thinking, reading, and writing skills. I believe that it is a combination of the process of learning as well as the learning content that ultimately leads to success.

Student performance will be assessed using a variety of tools such as nightly homework, projects, essays, seminars, tests and quizzes. Grade updates will be provided regularly and parents will be notified if their child's average falls below a 70%. Due to the pace of the course, regular attendance is necessary for peak performance.

Extra help is required by all students from time to time. I am available both before and after school as well as through out the school day. A history staff member is always scheduled to be at the Social Studies Department Center on the 3rd floor of the high school (#3050) where they can answer questions or provide assistance during all periods of the day.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact me through the Main Office (#266-7351).
