AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL
The
goals of
Amnesty International include educating the student body and the community of
the vast number of human rights abuses and global issues that take place each
and every day.
Recent projects and events led by Amnesty include:
**
One Laptop Per Child --> Students raised
money by holding a concert and a "Guess how many skittles" contest in
November 2007. Students, faculty, parents, and staff raised
enough money to purchase four laptop computers for
students in Namibia.
**
Recycling
--> Every Thursday after school members of Amnesty collect bottles, cans, and
other recyclable containers.
Students have distributed collection boxes to all classrooms
and offices and are responsible for adding collection
containers to the Commons and Small Cafe at IHS.
** Student Forum --> In February
2007, on the eve of "Super Tuesday", six students took on the role of
Presidential
hopefuls in the Fifth Annual "Amnesty Student Forum."
Students will once again host a Presidential forum before Election
2008.
We are very excited about the possibilities and potential for growth that our group has this year. There is a lot that we are looking to accomplish as we work to make IHS students aware of what is going on beyond the walls of our building.
