Class Expectations

          Be Respectful

Be considerate – to yourself, classmates, teachers, and property.

No talking when someone else is talking.

  Be Ready

·         Remove all cell phones, mp3s, ipods, earbuds from sight before entering the room.

·         At the bell, be in your seat with your notebook open.

·         Have homework ready to turn in, and begin classroom procedure.

·         Write the day’s objectives in your notebook and follow instructions on overhead.

      Be Responsible

·         Focus on the task, and participate in all activities.

·         Work cooperatively and collaboratively with all.

·         Safety is a priority.  Take great care with equipment and clean up your work area.

·         No eating is allowed in class – it’s just not safe in a science room.

Failure to abide by expectations will result in:

                   First, a warning.

            Second, an after school meeting

                   Third, a parent call

                   Fourth, administrative referral

Grading Policy

Grading is calculated by dividing the number of points earned by the total number of points possible.  Keeping track of your own grade is recommended.

            Labs (20-25 pt)                                   approx.  35%

            Homework/Projects (5 – 50pt)          approx.  30%

            Tests/Quizzes (20-80pt)                     approx. 35%

Class activities and notebooks are also subject to grading.

LATE WORK?

Homework is not accepted late!

For full credit, it should be neat, complete and mostly correct.

It is due at the beginning of class.

Labs must be turned in on date due.

Since all labs are mandatory, you receive a 25% deduction for the 1st week.

After one week, the grade will be a 0%, but you earn "lab credit.”

If you receive a “U” (unacceptable) on a lab, you have 2 days to resubmit it

    with corrections for partial credit.

ABSENCES

It is YOUR responsibility to get notes, homework assignments, handouts you missed.  Find a study-partner you can call, or who will pick up your things on the days you are absent.

            Partner's name & phone # __________________________________________

You will be expected to make up and hand in all work missed due to absences.  You should expect to take any tests or quizzes missed on the day of your return to class.

Make-up tests may be in the form of essays.

Thursdays after school are lab make-up days.  Labs must be made up within one week!

LAB REQUIREMENT

New York State requires that you complete at least 30 hours of laboratory activity.  Your indexed and organized lab file is required to proof that you have satisfied your requirements.

Lab activities are to be approached with serious attention to both technique and safety.  Take  great care with equipment and clean your work area.

NOTE:   Labs are sometimes collected at the end of a lab period – so stay on task!

GET ORGANIZED!

Efficient note-taking is essential.  A 3-ring notebook is mandatory.  There will be occasional "open-note" quizzes. Notebooks will be graded each quarter at unannounced times.
