Study Tips

Get a study buddy to interact with, share ideas, compare notes, and quiz
each other.

Redraw and label key diagrams.

Rewrite notes for all "science factoids".

Go over unit outlines (available on website) and answer all questions with
examples/pictures.

Teach the material to someone else.

Take control. Make a list of all the things you need to do. Divide your
workload into manageable chunks. Prioritize. Schedule your time realistically.
Stick to your deadlines.

Get into the habit of actively studying each day.

Choose quiet places to study that are free from distractions (TV, telephone,
small siblings).

When you feel yourself losing focus, take a break and walk around a bit.

Test Taking Strategies
Before the Test:
- Be on time and come fully prepared.
- READ ALL DIRECTIONS!
- Look at all diagrams, charts, and their captions.
- CHECK THE REFERENCE TABLES!!!!!
During the Test:
- Read ENTIRE question and all answer choices.
- Ask yourself, "What is this question asking?" Put it in your own
words.
- Look out for absolute words like "always/never",
"greatest/least".
- If you are positive of the answer, mark it and go on.
- CHECK THE REFERENCE TABLES!!!!!
- If you are the least little bit unsure, WAIT, skip it and go on (often there
are hints in other questions).
- Go through ENTIRE test.
After the Test:
- CHECK THE REFERENCE TABLES!!!!!
- Go back to questions you skipped over.
- Be careful about changing your first answers without good reason - your
first choices are more likely to be correct.
- REREAD question and choices.
- Narrow down answer choices by eliminating obvious "distractors".
- CHECK THE REFERENCE TABLES!!!!! THEY ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND ON THE TEST!!!!
