The following list of day trips is offered as a supplement to your well-rounded Earth Science education. Each location has features or attractions that support your classroom instruction in the earth sciences. Enjoy the experiences. Trips in the Greater Rochester Area:Rochester Museum and Science Center – Various Exhibits Strasenburgh Planetarium – Astronomy Shows, IMAX movies Mendon Ponds County Park – Glacial Geology, Naturalist hikes Seth Green drive - lower falls of the Genesee River
Canoeing on Irondequoit Creek. Canoe rentals available at BayCreek Paddling Center Winter is a great time of year for digging fossils from the canal (near long pd rd.) Regional Trips:The Grand Canyon of the East - Letchworth State Park
C.E.K. Mees Observatory in Bristol – Summer Stargazing and tours by appointment
Chimney Bluffs State Park – Erosion of Drumlins along the Lake Ontario Shore. This trip is best in the dry months, very muddy in springtime. Watkins Glen NYS Museum in Albany – a great one day road trip Niagara Falls, NY Schoellkopf Geological Museum in Lockport, NY Robert Moses Hydroelectric Power Plant in Lockport, NY - They offer tours of the plant (call ahead) and have interactive exhibits on power generation. A nice complement to visiting Niagara Falls. Ontario Science Center – Toronto, Canada. This is a better weekend trip, but worth it for the diversity of its interactive exhibits.
