Minimum School Exclusion Periods for Common Communicable Diseases
The following minimum school exclusion periods for personnel and pupils are based on requirements and recommendations of the New York State Department of Health, the New York State Department of Education and the West Irondequoit school physician.

Chicken Pox |
At least 7 days after first appearance of rash or all lesions have dried and scabbed.
|
|
Colds and Simple Sore Throats |
Until temperature has been normal for 24 hours and child is well enough to tolerate school.
|
|
Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye) Impetigo |
Until commencement of medical treatment, note from physician, or signs of improvement.
|
|
German Measles (3 day) |
Until recovery – usually 4 to 7 days.
|
|
Regular Measles (10 day) |
Until recovery – at least 7 days from first appearance of rash.
|
|
Pediculosis Pinworms Scabies Ringworm |
Until an approved form of treatment has begun and there is no longer danger of transmission of infestation or infection to others.

|
Strep Throat/Scarlet Fever |
Until the child is under care of a physician and has been on an antibiotic for 24 hours.
|
|
Whooping Cough |
Until 5 days of therapy has been completed. |
