West Irondequoit Central School District
Technology Education Curriculum

Guiding Principles

In a highly advanced ever-changing technological world, it is imperative that students meet the technology standards outlined by New York State and our West Irondequoit technology education curriculum.  The West Irondequoit technology education curriculum will prepare students for functioning in our technological world.  Through hands-on, authentic learning experiences, students will develop the ability to select, manage and use technology, and evaluate its impact on society.

To support that effort we believe the West Irondequoit technology education curriculum will:

  • Support life-long learning, both within and beyond the classroom, developing a bridge between secondary and post-secondary opportunities.
  • Vary widely in course offerings so that students can explore a multitude of interests, and technological abilities, and to foster awareness and career readiness.
  • Be structured so that students will master the essential skills and knowledge as outlined in the national and state standards through differentiated instructional opportunities.
  • Provide a hands-on learning environment where students utilize skills such as problem-solving, creative and critical thinking and decision making in the process of researching, designing, testing, modifying and producing a product.
  • Provide opportunities for students to discover the connections among real-world applications of Math, Science, English Language Arts and other disciplines, and their relationship to technology.
  • Engage students in professional work experiences and environments, within the classroom and in cooperation with community partners.
  • Provide a learning environment in which students can become independent by thinking and doing for themselves while becoming effective team members.
