Physical Education Guiding Principles


We believe that physical education…

  • promotes learning through a variety of movement experiences by means of a sequential educational program
  • develops, teaches and provides the opportunity for mastery of various movement skills, concepts and principles
  • establishes the foundation for pursuit and development of health related physical fitness
  • develops an understanding and appreciation of lifetime physical activities
  • enhances cognitive skills such as problem solving, decision-making and critical thinking
  • promotes self-understanding and acceptance of others

  • encourages an environment where responsible personal and social behaviors are learned and demonstrated
  • provides opportunity for enjoyment, self-expression, challenge and social interactions
  • provides a safe and healthy environment to promote physical and emotional well being during activity
  • creates an awareness of district and community resources
  • creates the awareness and opportunity for the use of technology
  • allows differentiated instruction for all children with varied cognitive, social and physical abilities
  • provides an opportunity to explore physical education vocations, avocations and the influence of physical activity on everyday life
