IHS Business Students Earn Awards at DECA SCC

IHS Business Students Competed at the 57th Annual DECA State Career Conference March 8-10th

Irondequoit High School students applied their business knowledge they learned in the classroom in their respective DECA event at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. The 57th Annual New York State DECA Career Conference (SCC) was held March 8-10th and over 2,200 high school business students from all over New York State came to compete in over 40 different competitive events.

DECA, an international student organization, enhances the preparation for college and careers by providing co-curricular programs that integrate into classroom instruction, applying learning in the context of business, connecting to business and the community and promoting competition. Its student members leverage their DECA experience to become academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, experienced leaders. Information about DECA can be viewed at www.newyorkdeca.com and www.deca.org

Students choose an area of business that is of interest to them at the start of the school year and prepare to compete in their area through business classes and other resources available through DECA. Business classes at Irondequoit High School that incorporate DECA into the curriculum include College Accounting, College Business Law, Virtual Business Management, Entertainment Businesses, Sports Marketing and International Business. Most of these students qualified at the regional level to make it to this conference. Students can earn medals in their respective events by earning a top ten place for either their test, role play(s) or overall. Earning a trophy at SCC qualifies a student to compete in their respective event at the DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Anaheim, CA at the end of April with over 15,000 other DECA business students from around the world.

IHS DECA advisors Lou DiCesare, Jeanine Lent and LaVon Bucciarelli were extremely impressed by the wide variety of events that students qualified to compete in at the SCC. Even more impressive was the number of top ten medals earned in a test score, role play performance or overall top-10 recognition.

Below please find the following students who earned recognition by receiving a top 10 in their event and/or a trophy.
