Online RedOx Lab

Brief Description:
|
Students use
a laptop computer to access an internet site in order to investigate the
activity series of different metals as part of our Oxidation – Reduction
Chemistry Unit. The students will use
the information that is gathered from this interactive site (a simulation) to
put together a list that indicates the reactivity of metal atoms and ions.

Procedures:
|
Have each
student access the internet using a computer and go to the designated web
page that is given on the Activity Series Online Lab. This web site is also linked to the West Irondequoit
High School – Media
Center Web Site (under chemistry sites).
The teacher should model the use of the web site to get the students
started. The students can work through
the lab by following the directions and collecting the data as they go.

Assessment:

The
Activity Series Online Lab is collected and graded to check for understanding
of an activity series. The use of an
activity series will also be assessed on the unit exam.
