Chuck Close Inspired Self-Portraits

Brief Description:

 

Students will use digital photography resized and converted to gray scale to use as a reference for a self-portrait.

digital photo, drawing paper, rulers and colored pencils

 

Procedures:

Discussion of what makes a good composition and ideas for personal expression. Demonstration of digital camera use, downloading pictures, resizing, and gray scale conversion. Value and pattern lesson, grid demonstration, color scheme (monochromatic), colored pencil demo and tips, student work time.

 

Assessment:

Whole class critique discussing works successes and needs. Teacher assessment (rubric) looking for students understanding of previously outlined requirements.
